Git and imports

Bring in an existing design and work with its repository.

Import from GitHub

Open Create → Import repository and provide the GitHub repository URL. Repository imports bring in Git history, branches, tags, and available LFS objects, subject to import limits and upstream access. Older snapshot imports do not automatically gain full history; reimport if you need it.

Review automatic extraction

The importer looks for supported CAD, electronics, fabrication, and part data, including recognized archive contents. Review proposed Things and their associations. Native CAD support varies; finding a file does not mean every feature can be decoded, rendered, or compared.

Clone or download

Open the project’s Clone menu for its clone URL, desktop handoff, and download option. Use the URL shown for that project rather than constructing one yourself. Private Git access uses a personal access token from Settings.

Large files

CAD files can use Git LFS. Install Git LFS in your local Git environment before working with an LFS-backed repository, and ensure its objects are available before publishing. A pointer file alone does not contain the CAD model.

Branches and history

Use branches for changes you want to review separately. The version selector exposes branch and release choices. History on a Thing or file opens commits that changed it; project Commits shows repository history.
